Person-Centered Planning: What is it and how do I get one?
January 16 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
This 90-minute presentation is designed to provide an overview of the models of Person-Centered Planning (PCP) used by school districts, agencies, and the advocacy community. Participants will learn the strengths and weaknesses of each model and how to find a PCP provider for yourself or a family member with a disability. However, once a PCP has been conducted, if it is not used you have wasted your time and in some cases, wasted your money. Participants will learn how to collaborate with districts and agency to ensure the use of the PCP, and how to personally use the information to develop a natural and paid network of system of support for the person with a disability.
Presenter: Dr. Vicki Mitchell – Dr. Mitchell is the Eleanor & Charles Garrett Endowed Chair for Special Education at Sam Houston State University, an Associate Professor, and the Executive Director of the Garrett Center on Transition and Disability Studies. Dr. Mitchell was a general and special education teacher, a special education administrator, worked as an Education Specialist at Region 4 Education Service Center in Houston, Texas, and as a private consultant for 12 years.
